On January 24, 2020, we were reminded of the glory deeds of our ancestors who gave us the most important lesson of solidarity 161 years ago: The Unification of the Romanian Principalities under the leadership of a Romanian ruler, Alexandru Ioan Cuza. It was the moment that marked the birth of modern Romania, through the will of some people able to build a consensus around a national ideal.
This important historical event is also known as the “Little Union” and represents a basic pillar for the accomplishment of the Romanian unitary national state.
The program of the events celebrating the Union of Romanian Principalities, at NegreÅti-OaÅ
Starting at 12.00 pm at the Heroes Monument:
- Intonation of the national anthem of Romania
- Religious ceremony officiated by the priests from NegreÅti-OaÅ
- The historical importance of the day of January 24, 1859
- Ceremony for laying wreaths and flowers
- Artistic moment
The event was organized by the NegreČti-OaČ Town Hall and Local Council, through the Town House of Culture, in partnership with the OaČ Land Museum, the NegreČti-OaČ National Center for Tourism Information and Promotion and the townās educational institutions.
