The cycle of winter feasts and holy days ends with the celebration of Saint John and the goal of organizing the Festival of the Traditional Winter Customs and Habits on this day is to attract more tourists and to mark the festive conclusion of the cycle of Christmas related events.

The competition-festival takes place in the atmosphere of the traditional village of the Oaș Land Outdoor Museum, right after the Christmas parade that starts from the cathedral.

Additional to the carol singers enrolled in the contest, inhabitants of Negrești-Oaș  and the villages of the Oaș Land, dressed in their holiday traditional costume, are also expected to participate to the event.

The main goal of the organizers is to contribute to the education of both the carol-singer groups and the general public, thus safeguarding  the intangible cultural heritage element registered on the UNESCO List, i.e. the men caroling. The jury analyzes and assesses the performance of each group of carol singers, according to the rules of the festival.

The festival is organized by the Negreşti-Oaş Town Hall and the Negreşti-Oaş Local Council through the Negreşti-Oaş Town Culture Center, in partnership with the Oaș Land Museum, Negreşti-Oaş National Center for Information and Promotion of Tourism and Satu Mare County Center for Conservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture.
